#167 Wed (12/7/22) - Made in Abyss

Watched the two recap movies and the final third movie installment.

Journey's Dawn covers the first 8 episodes and ends when they leave Ozen, the White Whistle of the Second Layer.

Wandering Twilight covers the brutal last half of the first season (eps 9-13) where they encounter the Orb Piercer, Riko suffers a traumatic injury, Reg meets Nanachi, Riko endures a long slow recovery, Mitty is introduced, and horrible backstory shared and then tearfully resolved, and they all depart for the fourth layer.

Dawn of the Deep Soul mostly takes place in Layer Five and features Bondrewd the White Whistle, a Mengele-like figure who is conducting experiments on children to defeat the Curse of the Abyss (ironically, loss of humanity, a la Nanachi and Mitty). After a lot of brutal ugliness (Reg is horribly tortured the Cartridges are introduced) and tons of explosions in a big boss fight, Bondrewd and his Zoaholic are defeated(?) and they depart for Layer 6 to find Riko's lost mother.  Prushka is converted into Riko's White Whistle. It is not clear if they can ever come back and they leave hoping that there may be some answer further down. 

Season Two started airing 11/6/22 and is expected to be 12 episodes.

After this I deserve a pick me up - like Girls' Last Tour or Psycho-Pass. Still pushing through Lain. (Finished Lain and still feel like the final episodes are very hard to retain in mind, they seem to fuzz out and become incomprehensible, even though perhaps it is clear what happens, especially if you read the synopses of the episodes.
